Ecgþeo

Welcome!

Ecgtheow Ltd is a software consultancy founded in 2000 by me, long-time Free, Libre and Open Source Software developer Dick Porter. Since then I have collaborated with other enterprises around the world ranging in size from ‘startup’ to ‘multinational’, taking advantage of the communication possibilities of the internet to work remotely from an office in Swansea, UK.

I have nearly 20 years of professional experience, specialising in free and open source software development. In particular, I have been using Linux since the v0.97 kernel days (when the source easily fit on a 1.44M floppy disk!), and Slackware hadn't yet forked from the SLS distribution. I was also a systems admin on the Swansea University Computer Society machines, of Linux networking fame.

Since then, Linux has been my platform of choice for software development and network services.

I was one of the original three members of the Mono team at Ximian, Inc. and later Novell, Inc. During almost 10 years developing Mono, the team grew to over 30 members. I was mainly responsible for the low-level, cross-platform and cross-operating-system portability of managed applications.

In between, I have: written router firmware; designed and built AJAX web applications; constructed Android and iOS apps; and more!

These pages contain an indication of what I can do, and some examples of my work. Please feel free to download my CV or vcard, and contact me if you wish to discuss any potential project.
